Lyrics
Better Than He Ever Was
[©2020 W. Livesay]
Just a man trying to brave the weather
He’s aging and there's nothing he can do
He takes it all in stride keeping it together
Pride is all he's got to pull him through
A little gray painted on the edges
Some might say his time has come and gone
But it doesn't really matter ‘cause in his world
The marquee lights keep shining on
It's all he's ever done
He ain't ever gonna change
When he sings the world is his and you can't take that away
He’s following his muse defined by what he does
Just an aging troubadour
Better than he ever was
Night after night he brings his band together
On a mission they touch a more than a few
But fame is oh so fleeting for someone past his prime
Holding on to dreams that might not come true
He's got it going on there’s no denying
He's a master when he walks out on that stage
And when the stars align there's nobody better
Even though he's reached a certain age
It's all he's ever done
He ain't ever gonna change
When he sings the world is his and you can't take that away
He’s following his muse defined by what he does
Just an aging troubadour
Better than he ever was
He gives himself to those that long to hear him sing
With a passion in a voice that only years can bring
He’s following his muse defined by what he does
Just an aging troubadour
Better than he ever was
