Lyrics
Drunkard’s Lament
[©William Livesay]
I found myself on the floor this mornin'
Whiskey breath from the night before
Roll your own got a little hot
Caught my mattress in a perfect spot
It happens every now and then
I'm jumping ship from a burning bed
I'm just trying to get over
The girl I loved a long long time ago
Now the joke’s on me because the years unfold
Faster when your all alone
But this loneliness won't get me down
A drink or twelve will bring me back around
Bourbon and a nice warm beer
In the morning so my head is clear
I'm just trying to get over
The girl I loved a long long time ago
What used to be my instrument of pleasure is now my pain
It's a frightening thought that a couple of shots
Could ever be worth what I've been given up
Sometimes I sleep about a week
It can take maybe two to sober up
When I recall the hurtful things I did
I get drunk and do it all again
Now blacking out is my best friend
It keeps me from remembering
I’m just trying to get over
The girl I loved a long long time ago
